Origin of the Afro Man From Harlequin Pang
Gonzo announced that hip hop artist RZA will be composing the musical score for upcoming anime series Afro Samurai. RZA is a former member of the Wu-Tang clan, and has scored several major films, including Kill Bill and Blade: Trinity.
According to Anime on DVD, FUNimation announced that the company has acquired the rights to Origin - Spirit of the Past. The film has already been dubbed by FUNimation films, and is expected to be released on DVD during the first quarter of 2007.
At Anime Next, Del Ray announced that the company has acquired Densha Otoko (Train Man). The license in question refers to the standalone volume. Del Ray stated that this is the first of several titles that the company has acquired, and that more licenses will be announced at Anime Expo.
Harlequin Enterprises has announced that the company will be changing its manga distributions. In September, Harlequin will be distributing its own English-Language versions of the Harlequin manga titles. The titles will be aimed at the mass market, ignoring the comic and collector markets. The manga line will fall entirely under the company's "Pink Ginger Blossom" label, which is aimed at girls, ages 12 and older. The titles will be priced at 7.99 each, and include Jinxed, Never Kiss a Stranger, No Competition, and A Prince Needs a Princess. Two more titles are scheduled for November. Dark Horse, while no longer distributing the titles, will continute to translate the Harlequin manga line.
At Project A-Kon, Geneon announced that the company has acquired the rights to distribute Zipang. The first volume of the title is scheduled to be released on September 5, with a suggested retail price of $24.98 US ($34.98, with artbox).
