Tomino's Armored Rocket Maidens Spread Venus Winter Charats
Gundam Creator Yoshiyuki Tomino will make an appearance at the Chicago Film Festival this year. Tomino is attending the event to host the American premieres of the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam films. All three of the Zeta Gundam films will be aired back-to-back, with Tomino appearing between films to introduce his works. Following each screening, a Q&A session with the director will be held. The premiere will be held on October 7, 2006 at Thorne Auditorium (375 East Chicago Street). Pricing for the event is currently unknown. In addition to the film debut, Tomino will hold a special lecture with Hiroaki Inoue (GAINAX co-founder), Laura Miller, and Michael Raine (of University of Chicago) at Colubia College on August 6. The lecture will based on the socioeconomic impact of anime in Japan.
Broccoli announced that DiGi Charat will be receiving a new OVA. The OVA, titled DiGi Charat: Winter Garden, takes place ten years after the original television series. The title is being promoted as a "pure love story", with mild slapstick, as opposed to the franchise's other entries, which focused primarily on comedy and crude humor. Currently, inforation on a possible Japanese release date or price is unknown.
Moon Phase reports that Atsushi Suzumi's Venus Versus Virus manga will receive an anime adaptation. The series will be directed by Shinichiro Kimura (Hand Maid May, Burn-Up Excess) and animated by Studio Hibari (Happy Lesson, My Neighbor Totoro).
At Japan's C3xHOBBY exhibition, VOTOMS creator Ryosuke Takahashi announced plans to create a new Armored Trooper VOTOMS anime series. No information is known, outside of a broad "2007" estimated release date.
Housuke Nojiri's novel series, Rocket Girl, is slated to receive an animated adaptation. The announcement was made at Happinet's booth at the C3xHOBBY exibition. Currently, no details on the project are known.
Anime News Service reports that Satoshi Kon's Paprika will be played at the New York Film Festival. The Film Festival is set to be held from September 29 to October 15, 2006.
Anime Nation reports that Rozen Maiden will be receiving a third anime series. The show, titled Rozen Maiden: Overture is scheduled to air in Winter 2007.
