Kodansha's 2008 fiscal report reveals that the company posted 135.058 billion yen ($1.40 billion) in total revenue for the 2008 fiscal year. The total shows a decline of 7.686 billion yen ($81.2 million USD) from Kodansha's 2007 report. The drop represents the largest annual decline in Kodansha's 98-year history.

Kodansha's magazine division reported a 6.3% decline in sales, compared to those in fiscal 2007. The company's book publishing division saw a 7.9% decline, and advertising revenue dropped by 10.2%.

Kodansha is one of Japan's largest publishers, and has released many fan-favorite manga titles, including Negima! Magister Negi Magi, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Oh My Goddess!.
