Mitsuko Mori Receives People's Honor Award
The Mainichi Daily News reports that actress Mitsuko Mori will receive the People's Honor Award. The 89-year-old actress will receive the award for her achievements in acting, particularly her record-setting 2,000-show run as Fumiko Hayashi in Horoki (Journal of a Vagabond). Mori, who made her debut at the age of 14, began the role in 1961. She is set to reach 2,017 performances in the role on the final day of the season.
Mori performed in Princess Mononoke as Hii-sama, the old fortune teller in Ashitaka's home village.
Mori will be the 17th person to receive the award, which is given to individuals who made remarkable achievements in their professions, and were loved by the people. Other notable recipients include director Akira Kurosawa, and Sazae-san creator Machiko Hasegawa.
